[Eowyn isn't really a party animal, as college students go. She isn't entirely humourless, and she does go out sometimes, but she...]

[Okay, she's a little humourless. She likes to be doing useful things with her time, and sorority parties don't really meet that definition for her. They just feel frivolous. Fun in the moment, but she's not at college to have fun, she's here to get a degree and set herself on the path to doing good in the world.]

[But she does have friends in the sororities, and they do sometimes manage to get her out. This is one of those occasions, and she's been at the Eppa Rho Gamma house for a half-hour or so now - long enough to drink a bit, get a little buzzed, and be a little bored.]

[In other words, she's in the best state she'll ever be in to be grabbed by the elbow and pulled over to join in a drinking game with a few of the sorority members and other guests. Truth be told, it's probably not a coincidence that she's getting pulled into this - this is a sorority party, after all, and there's plenty of people who want to see if they can get her to loosen up.]

[There's a circle forming in one of the side rooms. With some coaxing, and lubricated by another couple of glasses of punch, Eowyn joins it, sitting cross-legged on the carpet and looking a little sceptical. Right up until she sees the guy across the circle from her, and sceptical turns to suspicious.]

[She doesn't actually know Kaphlar very well. Just well enough to know he's a creep and generally rubs her up the wrong way. He definitely isn't someone she wants to play Truth or Dare with.]

[So she pushes herself right back to her feet, tossing her long blonde hair back over her shoulder and shaking her head.] Nice try. I'm not playing with him here.

[He's been telling everyone from the moment someone first brought up Éowyn, and he's going to say it again, quite deliberately within her earshot:]

See? Told you she'd be too much of a stick in the mud to agree to this.

[Kaphlar doesn't know that much about her either - only enough to know she doesn't like him for the same reason other people don't like him: she's a stuck-up bitch who doesn't know what fun is.

But he's been reading, polishing his already highly-developed seduction skills. He knows he can peel away at that frigid outer layer and make her melt, or some other metaphor along those lines.

He knows that, because he has $20 riding on it, and that means he can't be wrong.]

[She wheels around in a flurry of golden hair and cotton skirts, hands on her hips, and glowers at him. There's no denying that Eowyn Jarlssen has a pretty ferocious glare.]

What did you say, Kinra?

[She's also even more belligerent when she's drunk.]

Say that to my face, asshole.

[There are some hoots and whistles from the other students, and they look as one to Kaphlar, waiting to see whether he can reel in the hook he's obviously baited.]

[Wow. Honestly, he wasn't expecting her to fall for it THIS badly. He can't contain the amused, vaguely condescending grin on his face.]

Okay. I said you're too much of a stick in the mud to play.

[If Eowyn has one flaw (and she has a lot more than one), it's that she's very easy to bait. She scowls at him, folding her arms, and abruptly sits back down, draining her glass.]

I'm a stick in the mud because I won't play with a sleazeball?

Uh, wow. [He brings a hand to his chest, looking at her as if he were genuinely wounded. It's likely that nobody else within a 50 foot radius would believe it, and he sort of knows it, but he doesn't care.] What did I ever do to you?
