CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Éowyn
Canon: Lord of the Rings
Age: 24
Suitability: At the point I'm taking her from, Éowyn is a virgin, and she's an unmarried highborn lady in a medieval setting written by a Catholic. So, unsurprisingly, the sexual openness here is going to come as a bit of a shock to the system, and take some adapting to. Éowyn has been raised to put a lot of value on her virginity, what with that being a big Thing in marriageability, so she'll definitely take a while to settle into the idea of sex not being a big deal.
That said, she's a very passionate and hot-blooded woman, and she has a certain rebellious streak, and once she actually does lose her virginity and get over her cultural baggage, she'll probably quite quickly get comfortable with the situation.
Species: Human
Canon Point: Around a month before her canon appearance and the arrival of the Fellowship.
History: Summary here, although a lot of that takes place after her canon point. tl;dr is: her parents died when she was a child, she and her brother were taken in by her uncle the King, and then war happened and King Théoden went a little cuckoo-bananas and got magic-poisoned, threw Éomer out, and Éowyn wound up staying to look after Théoden.
Personality: Éowyn is the daughter of an ancient line of kings, and she's very aware of that fact. She's proud, sometimes to the point of arrogance, of both her bloodline and her country. With that pride comes an intense sense of duty and responsibility: she feels the need to protect her own, and to put forwards a noble face to the world, one that her people could be proud of.
At the same time, especially at this point in canon, she's also very resentful of her place in her world. She chose, to an extent, to stay with Théoden and care for him - but she's a fundamentally wild person, and her confinement to Edoras and her responsibilities have chafed for a long time. She feels, not unjustifiably, that her sex has limited people's expectations of her and forced her to be a caregiver, when she's by temperament much more of a warrior. This frustration has been tamped down into a deep-seated depression, which is likely to take some time to lift, and can make her cold and distant. More than anything, she fears being trapped, and more than anything, she longs for a dramatic life and a glorious death.
Despite that coldness, though, Éowyn is a genuinely kind and empathetic person. Her experience of being prevented from following her own dreams has made her sympathetic to others who are overlooked or underestimated, and she believes fervently in honour and justice. While that is of course coloured by her setting (which is unquestioningly feudal and has a pretty strong theme of birth-as-destiny, especially in the realms of Men), she is still protective to those who are weaker, and willing to believe in people despite them being underestimated by everyone else.
That said, she's still a highborn lady, and the lack of control over her own life has made her ambitious. She wants to be a queen, to marry a king, to wield power of her own. She wants to live the kind of life songs are made of.
In fairness, she is the kind of hero songs are made of. She's suicidally brave, honourable, and loyal to a fault. She has a temper, which can flare up sharply or simmer into fury over a period of months or years. She's comfortable in her own skin for the most part - while she hates many things about her life, she mostly hates the situations she's been put in, rather than hating herself. She knows she's beautiful, noble, and skilled - it just hasn't let her break free from her responsibilities.
"Free" is the operative word. Freedom is what she craves more than anything - the capacity to forget duty and responsibility and honour, and live her life on her own terms. It's not coincidental that she comes from a semi-nomadic culture; she doesn't like to stay in one place, either literally or metaphorically. She has a strong need to prove herself, and can be quite competitive, not to mention stubborn. She's intelligent but not scholarly, self-controlled but not patient, and loyal but not obedient. She comes across initially as a lady should, beautiful and hard-working and almost gentle, but she's a shieldmaiden at her core, and it doesn't take much looking to see that.
Abilities/Weaknesses: In terms of magic, nothing. Éowyn is a vanilla human. She does, however, have abnormally good fighting and riding abilities, and knows a whole dang lot about horses.
In terms of weaknesses, besides the standard weaknesses of being a squishy human, she's severely claustrophobic. Her family and loved ones are easy targets for leverage.
RP Samples: On the TDM here and here.

It's the tattoo. That's what makes it a difficult decision. She's willing to pledge her service to another land, while she's here. There doesn't seem any way back, and truthfully, although the thought fills her with guilt, she isn't sure she'd take it if there were. This place is closed-off in its way, but it isn't Edoras, and if she understands the book rightly, here they will give her sword and shield and a charge, woman or no. That's an intoxicating thought, for one as thirsty for glory as she is.
Even the uniform, though it seems impractical (not to mention uncomfortable), she can stomach. They are only clothes, after all, even if that's... a lot more leg than she would ever consider decent. And more chest, more arm, and more stomach, for that matter. But here, it is clearly not seen in the same light, and she has the dignity to bend to another land's customs, even if it's going to take a lot of getting used to.
But the tattoo...
That marks her in a way she's never been marked, makes her property. A lady of Edoras does not bear such marks, and Éowyn is unwilling to make any agreement so permanent. It isn't the pain that frightens her. She has never feared pain. But she feels as though she has only now walked into the light of freedom, out of the shadowed halls of her fathers, and to immediately brand herself to another prison... that sits ill with her, to say the least. Is she livestock, to be so branded? And if - when, she corrects herself mentally, with ruthless force - she returns home, tattooed with another land's sigil, what then? Will her people see it? Her husband, if ever she is wedded? How can she hope to explain it?
She sighs, resting her chin on her hand, and traces a finger over the page of the book. Is it more than a scar? she asks herself, tapping her finger thoughtfully against her lip. And then, What if I refuse?
It ought, she feels, to be an easy decision. She is not used to indecision, to questioning herself this way. But for once, her heart does not point the right way. This may be a long deliberation.
